What a strange name (even for those who speak German!): Kötzschenbroda. Bully Buhlan, in the 50s a well known singer, came across that name and adopted Glenn Millers "Chattannooga Choo Choo" - in 1943 in a parody ("kind greetings to Kötzschenbroda - Id rather stay at home!" (an original recording can be found here), later in a version more pleasant to the people of Kötzschenbroda which is recorded on a CD that you may buy in the village.
The real Kötzschenbroda is mentioned for the first time in 1271 - which makes the village nearly as old as Dresden! Situated at the right bank of the river Elbe it lies between Dresden and Meissen. The market of the village with superb farms and individual narrow houses was almost completely collapsing in itself during the socialist DDR time (1949 - 1989) - but after the peaceful revolution when the Berlin wall came down in 1989 inhabitants and investors rebuilt the village: Today it is with multicoloured houses and an interesting mix of restaurants and shops, trade and culture a lworthwhile place to see.
Particularly the wine festival at the third weekend in September is a good time to visit the village!
